Introduction of Lightweight Technology

Metal forming of advanced materials and its joining method

Automakers around the world, including those in Japan, the United States, and Europe, are gradually increasing the size and weight of vehicle bodies regardless of vehicle type in order to meet end-user standards for a "safer and more comfortable" vehicle. At the same time, as typified by hybrid cars, electric vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles, there are also challenges to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, leading to fierce global development competition. In response to these conflicting needs and issues, Topia creates prototypes based on the latest materials and technologies. In 2011, we acquired JISQ9100, a quality management system standard for the aerospace industry. We have expanded into the aerospace, railroad vehicle, home appliance, and medical industries in addition to automobiles. It will expand infinitely.

1. Processing of New Materials

Recently, lightweight and high-strength materials are often used in car body manufacturing, and new materials are emerging every day. In the processing of such new materials, advance examination, process improvement, post-molding analysis, etc. are indispensable. Topia's unique know-how allows it to be created for the first time.

2.Establishment of New Construction Methods for Resins such as Carbon

At the Kanagawa Plant, we mainly manufacture racing car bodies using carbon. Skilled technicians create each item by hand using the hand lay-up autoclave method. In addition, we are working to establish a new manufacturing method that enables low-cost mass production by making full use of processing technology for a new material called “Thermoplastic Resin”.

3.Advanced Press Processing

High-strength, high-precision prototypes can be manufactured by performing accurate temperature control during the heating and cooling process. This technology is possible only at Topia, which has a huge amount of data accumulated through trial and error, as well as large-scale facilities.

4.Joining Technology

We can respond to all situations, including mechanical joining such as SPR and FDS on the premise of joining nonferrous metals and other materials in lightweight technology, as well as electronic welding using disk lasers and CMT. We can also offer the best method for different combinations of die castings, extrusions, high-tensile steel sheets, etc. upon consultation. We are also capable of stable application of adhesive bonding using robots.
